Ah the first Friday in January, how satisfying you are. I hope you’ve all had a great (and short!) week back to work and are ready to either relax the weekend away, or really get your wedding planning started! Today before I head off to do the relaxing bit, I wanted to share the beautiful images and love story of Roisin and Ciaran. The couple were married mid-August last year surrounded by their closest friends and family. Thanks to Connor McCullough Photography for sharing their day.
After meeting in Belfast when they were both at University, Roisin and Ciaran went travelling. It was during their adventure that they both realised their relationship was special. “After travelling together we had so much fun, supported one another through tough times away from our family and survived in even the most bug-infested hostels together! We knew it was forever then and made some wonderful memories,” explained Roisin. “While we were living in New Zealand, we went for a weekend break to the Coromandel Coast. We decided to take a hike up one of the mounts over looking the peninsula. When we reached the summit Ciaran surprised me by getting down on one knee with a ring he had specially made for me.”
On their return home to Derry the couple began their wedding plans and chose August 2016 as their date, followed by finding the perfect venue.
“We wanted somewhere local and not too far for our friends and family – some of them had travelled across the globe for our day. After visiting a few locations Beech Hill Country House was a stand out winner. Being a family run business, the same family in fact that ran the Arches in Magherafelt where my parents wedding reception was held, the food and hospitality won us over. We wanted simple and chic getting as many friends and family involved as possible,” added Roisin.
After securing their ideal venue choosing a photographer was high on their list of priorities.
“Our wedding was going to be a very special day for both of us which we wanted to remember and cherish. We didn’t just want portraits; we wanted beautiful candid pictures of our day. Connor McCullough went above and beyond for us, from the moment we contacted him right through to our wedding he made the whole photography aspect so simple and worry-free. Even after hurting his wrist prior to our wedding he produced the goods!” said Roisin.
As they had just returned from their time travelling, and with Roisin heading back to University a lavish and expensive wedding budget was out of the question. Instead the couple concentrated on bringing together elements they love with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for their guests and created a sublime rustic styled day with colours of nature accenting the surroundings.
“The day was perfect, relaxed and a lot of fun. I can’t pick one highlight I think one of the stand out moments was actually seeing everyone for the first time as I walked up the isle to Ciaran and when Ciaran finally saw me at the altar. It was a very exciting moment when it all became very real,” said Roisin.
“For me the whole day was fantastic and absolutely flew in. Seeing Roisin at the altar took a lot of the nerves away, I never knew how nerve racking that part actually would be. One of the big highlights for me though was that moment after dinner when Roisin and I could just sit back, chill out together and watch everyone who came to wish us well share stories and have a few laughs. They all seemed to be having a ball, which was what we were hoping for – Oh, and the food was a highlight!” said Ciaran.
I would say don’t get too carried away with the ‘stuff’ that comes with weddings, ultimately it is a day of celebration as a couple with all your friends and family all you need is the right people around you. We were very lucky to have all our friends and family with us even travelling to see us from USA, New Zealand and Australia. I would also say to set a budget and stick to it, shop around and get creative. Finally, book a nice relaxing honeymoon after if you can, you will need the rest and relaxation after all the fun and excitement!
