Good morning gorgeous ones, how was your weekend?
Today’s beautiful Donegal wedding comes thanks to Bradley Henderson Photography via Bermuda and The Wirral, it’s a real international one this week! I love Holly’s choice of soft pink styling, pretty bouquets and how they’ve incorporated tropical touches elegantly into their day.
Couple: Holly + Niall
“We met on the first day of Vet school. Niall strolled into the lecture theatre wearing a Tyrone jersey and I was hooked from day one. It was the beginning of a friendship which blossomed rather slowly (much to our friends frustration), we didn’t get together until five years later. We knew it was for life when as luck would have it, we began working in the same veterinary practice after qualifying from vet school. We have been inseparable ever since.”
Proposal: I grew up in Bermuda so we went on holiday to show Niall the sights. We spent a night in one of the islands five star hotels as it was located on one of my favourite beeches. With ring in hand, Niall had big plans to propose to me under the stars along the beach after a romantic dinner at the Reefs, could Niall encourage me to go for a stroll along the beach? 'No!’ So rather than stumbling onto the perfect location, Niall had to drag me to the beach and accept the compromise of a short walk and sitting on a sun lounger. Eventually when I realised what was happening, the ‘No’s’ from before eventually became a YES!
Wedding date: Monday 22nd August 2016
Ceremony: St Patrick’s Church, Donegal Town
Reception: Harvey’s Point, Lough Eske, Donegal
Our Planning: We started planning the wedding a year in advance. Once we had the venue booked, everything just followed on. Luckily I was on maternity leave during the planning stage so it wasn’t too stressful. We tried to stick to a budget of £15,000 and just about managed! We decided to spend on photography and videography as this would be the main memory we had of the big day. We also didn’t want to budget on flowers so we did lots of research on the type to go for. We wanted to splash out on a venue with great food and surroundings as this is what we thought people would remember, and managed to save on the bridesmaid dresses by getting them online. This was a bit of a risk because it was an overseas company. Luckily they were perfect and they only needed a few adjustments. We also saved on the venue by having the wedding on a Monday. We figured the English side would be making a holiday out of it so it wouldn’t matter too much on the day of the week. We wanted to bring a Bermuda beach theme to the wedding because I grew up there and this is where we got engaged. We went for a pearl pink colour scheme to match the pink sand. We also had Bermuda’s potent rum as favours, which went down a treat. However, there were a few bad heads the next day.
Our Style: I purchased my dress from Bellissima Brides on The Wirral. I wanted something simple and comfortable to dance in with just the right amount of lace but not covering the whole dress. I also wanted something unique about the dress, which is why I chose one with a heart shaped back. They had a lovely range of Mori Lee dresses and I picked the dress as soon as I tried it on. I did some Pinterest research beforehand to get an idea. For the bridesmaids I ordered online from a website called DIYdresses.com. We took a bit of a risk not being able to see the real thing before ordering them but they were perfect and a quarter of the price of most bridesmaids dresses we looked at. We did some Pinterest research on the type of suits we wanted, however Niall had the idea in mind long before the wedding. The suits were purchased from S.D. Kells in Omagh.
Our Highlights: Being in one room with all of our closest friends and relatives drinking and dancing was the real highlight of the day - It’s a bit surreal!
Our Advice: The day goes by very quickly, so take time to appreciate your wedding day. Failing that invest in a good photographer and videographer to capture some of the things you inevitably miss. Enjoy every stage of planning for the wedding as the big day because the day flies by. Take some time out during the day to have a glass of champagne with your new husband/wife.
