Ten Looks for the Most Dapper Groom

January 15, 2016
Grooms style

Is there anything better than a man in a great suit? We’ve had the pleasure of trawling through our male style archives to show you this year’s top trends and have found the perfect inspiration to make sure that your groom is suited and booted to perfection. It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it…

Grooms style

Tweed – Tweed has been a big hit for groom’s wear over the past few years. Still a totally classic choice, yet more relaxed and quirky than your standard suit. Ireland is home to some of the best tweeds in the world, so take advantage of the alternative choices which can be found right on your doorstep!

Grooms style

Mismatch – We’ve seen mismatched bridesmaids becoming more and more popular in recent years, so what’s stopping the boys from following suit? We love this effortless and relaxed look which would be the perfect choice for a whimsical, laid back wedding.

Grooms style

Colour – Is your groom not afraid to think outside the box? In that case, a coloured suit is calling his name! There are so many effortlessly cool options to choose from which will help to incorporate more colour into your day. We applaud this brave groom – This forest green option is totally awesome.

Grooms style

Tartan – Like the idea of tartan but not brave enough for a kilt? This suit is the perfect alternative. Tartan can be a really different, yet smart option for a groom and can allow the man in your life to subtly stand out from crowd.

Grooms style

Relaxed – Maybe your husband to be isn’t really a smart suit kind of guy? This relaxed option could be the answer to your prayers! While it is still suitable wedding attire, your groom will feel more like himself with an outfit like this one. Style this up with some laid back loafers or some cool converse to complete the look.

Grooms style

Classic Tux – Sometimes it’s hard to beat a timeless classic. A black tie suit goes a long way in terms of style and is one that will never date. The key to pulling off this look will be the fit of the suit, and if you get that right then the suit will do the talking for itself.

Grooms style

Geek Chic – Bow ties and braces are the number one go to accessories to create the geek chic look for any groom. Team these with a crisp white shirt and some tailored trousers to make sure your groom is bang on trend.

Grooms style

Velvet – We have seen some dapper velvet suits on the red carpet recently, with the likes of Eddie Redmayne and Douglas Booth rocking this look. If your man isn’t sold with a full velvet suit, a subtle bow tie can also be very fashion forward, without asking your groom to step too far from his comfort zone.

Grooms style

Vintage – The vintage trend has been popping up in a number of weddings over the past few years and doesn’t look to be going anywhere anytime soon! We should thank the people over at Liberty of London for this one, as their beautiful fabrics are growing ever popular in the wedding industry with brides up and down the country snapping up their quirky bow-ties to create the perfect vintage look.

Grooms style

English Classic – Last but most definitely not least is the English Classic look. We’re talking well cut suits with crisp white shirts and a timeless, classic tie. This trend is another one which is unlikely to date and has been popular for many years. In order to keep this look modern, pay particular attention to the finer details such as the lining of the suit, tie pins, pocket squares and smart cufflinks – These finishing touches will allow the groom to cater this look to his own style.

What will your groom be wearing on the big day? We’d love to know, we’re nosey like that!

Promise Picks: Veil Inspiration

January 8, 2016
Wedding veil

Were you that little girl who draped a pillowcase over the back of her head in preparation for her bridal debut? (Definitely not me… nope, definitely not – I went for the tea towel look instead!) While those days are long behind us, a classic veil is still a firm favourite with the modern bride, and you don’t have to be super traditional or religious to rock a veil! It’s important that you choose a veil that matches your dress and the overall look of your wedding, but also a style that suits your personality as well. Whether it’s bohemian, full on glamour, subtle and sophisticated or an alternative look that you’ve gone for, we’re sure to have found you some perfect inspiration.

Alone By The Sea

Etheral coastal inspiration shoot by Lisa McConalogue

‘We two were alone by the sea;

I and the man I loved with me.

Our eyes were glad and our hearts beat high,

As we sat by the sea, my love and I ‘

Today we’re sharing a stunning bridal inspiration shoot by Lisa Mc Conalogue Photography. Drawing inspiration from ‘The Ship from Tír Na nÓg’ by Emily Henrietta Hickey, Lisa and her incredible team created this beauty of a shoot. Over to Lisa to explain how they came up with the idea…

“It all started with local designer Megan from Couture Bridal Accessories approaching me to collaborate on an exciting venture to create an ethereal, coastal shoot inspired by the magical and romantic poem written by Emily Henrietta Hickey.  Megan wanted to convey the love of a man and a woman and the adventures they shared at the shoreline, their deep love alive and breathing in the waves of the ocean.”

Tír Na nÓg or ‘The Land of The Young’ is an ancient, Irish mythical tale of a supernatural realm of everlasting youth. A land of beauty and joy which mythical heroes visited by entering ancient caves or by going under the sea.

“We loved the idea of a coastal shoot showcasing the beautiful scenic country we live in.  The Isle of Doagh is  known for its breathtaking scenery, nestled on the coast of Donegal along the most Northern coastline of Ireland, providing the most idyllic location to recreate and bring to life the magic and romance of this mythical love poem. Set against a backdrop of green mountains, which sweep down to meet the Atlantic Ocean, encapsulated by the rustic, rocky terrain and soft golden sands.”

“We love the relaxed bohemian hairstyles and natural flawless makeup, which we felt, would be perfect for this type of shoot and would work harmoniously with Megan’s Juliet cap veils. Our model Dearbhla has been in the limelight recently as she has been crowned Northern Ireland’s, Miss Earth so we knew she would be perfect for the shoot.”

“The florals, simple and rustic by the incredibly talented Peter Whiteman mimic the rural landscaping. We wanted to keep the palette neutral and earthy, using Kate Wilton’s hand dyed silk ribbon in grey but with a touch of feminine blush to dress the bouquet and compliment the colours of the pebbles and stones on the beach.   The stationery by de Winton Paper Co highlights the mystical colours of the sea with the hand painted blue, delicate florals and romantic calligraphy.  Megan also stumbled across an old photograph of her grandfather as a sailor and we decided to incorporate this to create the image of the “man I loved”.”
