Evening! I hope your Monday was a productive one, I can’t help but feel a little deflated by the cooler weather again, really?! Bring the sunshine back! Tonight I’m sneaking in a beautiful real wedding before the day is over that’s full of personal and handmade touches, happy faces and a lovely couple, Natasha and Jonny – enjoy.
Couple: Natasha + Johnathan Beggs
“We met many moons ago back in 2007 when we both started working together. After a few lunch dates and work nights out we got to know each other better and after a bit of persuasion from Jonny we decided to give things a go and never looked back.”
“We got engaged on 22nd June 2015, after eight years of being together. We always said one day but it was one of those things we weren’t in a crazy rush to do! Jonny didn’t want to propose when people expected it so my 30th birthday in May came and went. He decided his time would be a completely random Monday evening. We were walking our dog Bailey on Crawfordsburn beach when out of the blue Jonny got down on one knee and said “How do you fancy being Mrs Beggs?” At first I thought it was a joke but then he produced the most amazing ring (picked by himself!) and I just burst into tears and of course said yes.”
Wedding date: Friday 6th October 2017
Ceremony: St Peters Church, Lurgan
Reception: Lusty Beg Island, Fermanagh
“After being together so long we have been to our fair share of weddings, we knew exactly what we didn’t want. We wanted something laid back and not just your traditional wedding package. I wanted it to be a lot more personal and low key. We started looking at venues that weren’t the usual and as soon as we arrived on Lusty Beg Island I knew straight away this was the place.
We set a rough budget and I was really strict to stick to it. Being together 10 years we just wanted a low key personal day and put our money into an amazing honeymoon to Australia. My wedding spreadsheet was my bible but it really helped us stick to our budget.
For us entertainment was really important as it is something guests always remember about a wedding in the sense of how much they danced all night! The Jukebox Jurors were an easy choice for us being a band and also having the DJ option, they had it all for us. They also entertained our guests in the afternoon with an acoustic set which also was fab.
I always knew I wanted Jimmy Choos for my wedding day and this is something I started saving for as soon as we got engaged. The most important walk of my life had to be done in Choos! I opted for a champagne glitter sandal which means I can wear them again. I keep telling Jonny they are an investment and I will have them for years to come!”
“Lusty Beg is naturally beautiful; the water, trees and wooden cabins really just confirmed the rustic, wooden, natural theme I was going for. All my decorations were lovingly handmade. My family and friends collected all my jars and bottles and we decorated them with twine, burlap and lace for my centre pieces. My dad, the very talented craftsman made the wooden table numbers and also the wooden slices for my centrepieces and my cake stand.
I used frames from our home for our table plan and other bits and bobs as extra decoration throughout the venue. We also hung pink and cream lanterns all different sizes from the ceiling to add a little extra decoration to the room.
I knew I wanted a blush pink for the girls so I just kept shopping around. I found the perfect dresses from Jenny Peckham No1 at Debenhams and they matched the style of my dress perfectly.
For Jonny and his groomsmen we opted for a clean, crisp and timeless dark navy suit from Suitor Brothers in Belfast. Chris was amazing throughout all the appointments and made sure the guys looked as good as us girls! I think the navy suits complimented the blush pink perfectly and worked with all the colours on the day.”
“The highlight for both of us had to be having so many people in one room all together and there for you. People who live some distance away and made the effort to come celebrate with us.
I also really enjoyed the drive down to Lusty Beg, just having that time together just the two of us and just married was really special.”
“I know most brides say they want something different and I was totally one of those brides. I wanted something with a vintage vibe so I was always drawn to beading and lace. I did some research online and really liked some Sottero & Midgley dresses. From there I looked up stockists of the brand and booked my appointments.
My first appointment was at Cathedral Gowns in Downpatrick and I was so nervous to the point where I was dreading dress shopping! Catherine instantly put me at ease and we tried on nearly all the dresses in the shop so I could get a feel for what I liked and what suited me. We came to what went on to be my dress towards the end of the appointment and it had everything; lace, beads and a stunning back detail, I knew it was the one before I was pinned into it. Catherine insisted I think about it and come back. I had a few other appointments but I couldn’t get the original dress out of my head so I returned to Cathedral Gowns with my bridesmaids, mum and Jonny’s mum and as soon I tried it on again and making my mum cry in the process, it had to be the one!”
“My advice really would be to make the day your own and that you cannot please everyone. Stay true to yourself, your own style and taste. As long as you both are happy and enjoying yourself that is all that really matters. After all it is your wedding day, everyone else will have their own day and to their own taste.”
