I do love kicking the week of with a wedding – what better way to get over Monday morning than with a beautiful love story and an inspirational real wedding? Claire and Matthew were married just over a week ago in Limavady. Their day was a shabby-chic-fest with an incredible Charlotte Casadejus wedding gown, sharp suiting from Tomorrows Wedding Emporium and stunning floral arrangements by Jil from The Stables Flower Company – crazy gorgeousness!! Thanks to Paul Davis from Davis Photography in Coleraine for the incredibly quick turnaround!
Claire and Matthew were introduced to each other in July 2006 by a mutual friend who is also Claire’s cousin. By 2011 the couple both knew they were in it for the long-run and they naturally began to start talking about marriage.
“We have been through many ups and downs together and supported each other. We wouldn’t want anyone else by our sides and we both just knew it was meant to be. Matthew asked me to marry him on New Years Eve 2011 and took me the very next week to try on engagement rings, as he knew this was something I wanted the two of us to do. It was such an incredible experience for us to share together. Once we had chosen a ring Matthew said he would ask me again to make it official as we still hasn’t told anyone. So on 21st Jan 2012 Matthew got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course it was still a surprise and we both cried and straight away starting sharing our news with family and friends,” explained Claire.
As Claire herself admits she’s a bit of an organiser and crazy planner so immediately started planning every single detail of their day.
“We decided on a shabby chic look, with lots of flowers. We felt the flowers and the relaxed shabby look was perfect for the time of year and for our quirky personalities, the flowers too brought everything alive,” added Claire.
Looking for a wedding gown that suited her quirky nature, Claire visited Ivory & Peal in Comber, a trip that would prove very fruitful.
“I saw Ivory & Pearl online and set an appointment to visit about a year and a half from our wedding day. Kate the owner had a style that was exactly me. It was quirky, natural, relaxed and so different from anything I had ever seen anywhere else. It was the first and only dress shop I visited with my mum and bridesmaid Rebecca. It was only the 3rd dress I tried on. It was perfect from the moment I stepped in to it. light, flowy, quirky and just me. I knew it was the one as I didn’t want to leave the shop without knowing it was mine!” added Claire.
Matthew and his groomsmen wore three piece ice blue suits which complemented the lavender bridesmaids dresses and lush flowers.
“The day went completely and utterly perfect. We laughed, cried and danced all day and night. It was incredible. Our flowers were the most breathtaking part of the day. I’ve never seen anything quite as spectacular and beautiful as what Jil had created for us. They tied the whole day together. My highlight was walking in to the church surrounded by family and friends and seeing Matthew at the top of the aisle. I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy or smiled so much. I was so excited and not one bit nervous,” said Claire.
“My favourite moment was turning round and seeing Claire joining me at the top of the aisle. She was just glowing and smiling from ear to ear,” added Matthew.
Plan, plan, plan. Enjoy organising everything and do it well in advance so you have plenty of time to enjoy every second. It all goes so quickly but being well organised made it extremely stress free for us and not one single hitch on the day, everything was perfect.
