A very warm welcome to another week here at The Promise, we hope you’ll managed to throw in one last hurrah to summer today and get to enjoy the bank holiday! So far its dry which can mean only one thing, barbecue!
Today we’ve got Edel and Gareth’s beautiful vintage wedding to share. I can turn into quite the little detective when it comes to our local weddings, so I was delighted when I tracked down their fabulous day at Lough Erne Resort, and even more excited when I discovered Erica Irvine was the clever lady behind the lens. Come settle down with a cup of coffee and let your bank holiday get off to a romantic start…
Edel and Gareth first met over 15 years ago when they socialised in the same places and both attended University in Belfast.
“The first night we actually spoke was in Pats Bar in Enniskillen, one Christmas and from that we remained friends. We didn’t see each other very often but when we did, we always had a great laugh! Forward on ten years and we met again in the Crows Nest in Enniskillen. This time we stayed in touch, the timing was pretty perfect and 15 years on from first meeting we got married!” explained Edel.
“We had talked about getting married for a while, so my proposal wasn’t a big surprise. Gareth booked a suite in the Culloden Estate & Spa in Belfast. We spend the day looking at rings and I ended up going back to the very first ring the lady had shown me in Lunn’s Donegal Arcade. I had went in looking for a gold solitaire and came out with a platinum cluster! That evening we had our tea in the Cultra Inn, we sipped over a bottle or two of wine, discussing where we wanted our wedding, who we wanted at it, what kind of music we would have etc…it was just lovely! So, all in all it wasn’t a huge gesture proposal but that’s not Gareth and he knows me well enough to know I’m not big on surprises, I like to know what’s happening! But it was just perfect!” added Edel.
The couple who live in Ballinamallard wanted to keep suppliers local, using all local services. They wanted a big celebration with their friends and family around them, which is exactly what they had. They chose the Lough Erne Resort simply because of the stunning setting. Situated right on the lough, it was the perfect backdrop for them and a convenient location for their guests too.
Edel who is one half of Enniskillen’s very successful ladies clothing boutique, Harry & George in Enniskillen, had a pretty tough time choosing her perfect wedding gown!
“I advise people what to wear on a daily basis and I couldn’t pick my own dress, it was a nightmare I was just so confused! It’s something you always dream of but actually in reality it’s hard! It’s not something you try on every day, so picking a style was quite the challenge. I knew I didn’t want something A-line or bustier, but aside from that I was very open. Something I tell my customers every day in work, don’t dismiss it until you try it on! I literally had every dress in Mc Elhinney’s on and this really confused me! I got into a real panic over it and ended up choosing a dress that was completely wrong! I knew deep down I didn’t love it, I just needed my sisters and my business partner and friend to confirm this for me. And so the search stared again! This time I had my ‘crew’ behind me and luckily I found the perfect dress! Not too heavy, easy to wear and most importantly it felt like a ‘me’ dress!” said Edel.
“We had a beautiful service in Magheracross Parish Church, we are mixed religion so it was even more meaningful to have both families and sets of friends there behind us, showing their support. This was undoubtably the favourite part of my day, seeing all the people who meant the most to us in there rooting for us! We have a little boy, Harrison, who melted everyone’s hearts shouting ‘Daddy’ ‘Daddy’ as he was walking my sister up the aisle! A very special moment. Gareth would also say this is his favourite memory of the day…Harrison and myself walking up the aisle to him! It felt we were cementing our little family,” added Edel.
On arrival at Lough Erne Resort the Magee Family were there to treat guests to upbeat traditional Irish music, whilst canapés, mini pastries, prosecco and beers were served.
“After dinner we had a Cocktail Hour with Jazz music, pretty perfect for that after dinner feeling! Our band was Lisa Mc Hugh, she was awesome, she is typically known for her country music but she she played a great mix and had the everyone up dancing,” added Edel.
