I do love a family day out in Botanic Gardens and at the Ulster Museum, especially when the weather is nice enough for a picnic. These glorious surroundings were just the spot for Fiona and Gareth’s recent engagement session by Fiona Jamieson Photography. There certainly wasn’t much sun on the day, but as you’ll see it didn’t matter, the love was warm enough!
Our love story
“Gareth and I first met five years ago whilst on a night out in Belfast. I was out with my friend Lizzy, and Gareth was out with his friend Rachael. Lizzy and Rachael are actually sisters so we arranged to all meet up in Katy Daly’s and take part in a pub quiz. Gareth and I got on great during the quiz and we ended up coming second too! A few days later, with the help of Lizzy and Rachael, we exchanged numbers and arranged to go on a date the following week. We continued dating for a few months and it came up in conversation one day that I’d never been to Botanic Gardens despite living in Belfast my whole life! So Gareth took me out for dinner one night and finished it off with a walk through Botanic Gardens where he asked me to be his girlfriend! A few months after that, we spent the day in Botanic Gardens having a picnic and I told Gareth that I loved him for the first time.”
“Four years later we were planning to go to Portugal for our summer holidays. I was heading out four days earlier than Gareth for a girly weekend and then we were staying at a family apartment for ten days. Gareth arrived at the apartment around midday and insisted we go out for a walk. I found it a bit strange that he kept giving me directions and seemed to know where we were going as he’d never been there before! I later found out that he’d asked my mummy for some tips on nice places to propose near the family apartment. We walked to a little secluded beach with a lovely pier and lighthouse at the bottom. When we reached the lighthouse Gareth got down on one knee and produced a ring from his pocket! I couldn’t believe that we’d only been in Portugal together for less than an hour and I had a ring on my finger!
The ring was absolutely perfect!! A solitaire diamond with diamond, twisted shoulders. We had walked passed Lunns about a year previous to this and I had shown Gareth what my ideal ring would be – he’d managed to get the exact same one. He told me that he’d asked my mum and dad for permission the week before and had even shown them the ring, I thought that was a really nice touch.”
Our engagement shoot
“Around the same time as we got engaged, my friend Christine was at her cousins wedding and told me that the photographer was absolutely brilliant. I got the details from her and discovered that Fiona Jamieson would be showcasing at the Quirky Wedding Fair a few weeks later so we decided to go along. As soon as we met Fiona, we warmed to her straight away. As if her stunning display of pictures and albums weren’t enough, her infectious, friendly personality won us over instantly.
We met up with Fiona a few weeks later & discussed all the finer details over a cuppa. Fiona mentioned that she likes to do an engagement/pre-wedding shoot with couples so that we have an idea of what to expect on the wedding day. As soon as she mentioned it we knew that Botanic Gardens would be the perfect location for us. We decided to do it early on a Monday morning so that the park wouldn’t be too busy. Unfortunately, after a week of pure sunshine, the heavens opened on us!! Luckily Fiona had thought of everything and brought a big umbrella for us to take shelter. The rain didn’t put us off at all and the photos with us under the umbrella are some of my favourite. Fiona was fantastic to work with, despite the wind, rain and cold fingers she chatted away and made us feel so comfortable.”
“After spending ten days in Portugal being newly engaged we knew exactly what we wanted from our wedding by the time we got home! We checked out a few venues and couldn’t resist the stunning Ballygally Castle. I had always dreamed of a winter wedding so we settled on New Years Day 2016. I know that Fiona will be like one of the family on the day, and we’re really looking forward to sharing it with her. I would recommend doing an engagement shoot to anyone, especially with the wonderful Fiona Jamieson!”
