I like to think this gorgeous wedding from Melissa J Photography will set your Friday off with a great, colourful start! Being the incredible creative talent behind Vintage Violet Floral Boutique in Markethill, it’s little wonder Sarah-Jane’s early September wedding to David was anything less than a floral feast! Thanks guys for sharing your special day with us.
“Being in the wedding industry as a wedding florist and having been involved in hundreds of weddings I already knew a lot of suppliers and knew who my ideal choices would be for our wedding, whilst supporting local businesses. We set a budget of around £6000, and stuck to it by keeping our wedding small and intimate with 50 of our closest friends and family. I DIY’ed as much as I could, making our own invites, order of services, table favours, lots of chalkboard signs and loads of other decor! I made our finger print guest book, and of course I made my own bouquets and buttonholes. A friend did the church and reception flowers, in pretty china teapots and vases that I had collected. My mum made my wedding cake and my sister made cupcakes. I also did a DIY photo booth which was a big hit. We blew the budget on the band, having such a small crowd we felt it was so important to entertain them, get them on their feet and partying with us, The Nooks certainly did that! I found the planning process exciting and fun, but sometimes it was stressful!” explained Sarah-Jane.
To reflect her personality and profession, Sarah-Jane went for a floral theme to her day but didn’t tie herself to any particular colours as she wanted a casual, bright and beautiful theme. She chose Melissa J Photography from Richhill to capture the celebration;
“I worked on a photo shoot with Melissa and even though I wasn’t in front of the camera, I could see how she worked, she made everyone feel at ease and it was a very relaxed atmosphere. That’s exactly what she did on our wedding day too, she is friendly and fun, and you can tell she loves her job,” said Sarah-Jane.
Two weeks before the wedding, Sarah-Jane had second thoughts on her wedding gown and headed to Elody Bride in Newry in search of a new one! That’s one brave bride!
“Sharon at Elody Bride was amazing, she put me at ease and was so patient. I felt very comfortable in the Justin Alexander dress I choose and I thoroughly enjoyed wearing it on our wedding day,” added Sarah-Jane.
To keep with the relaxed nature of the day Sarah-Jane let her bridesmaids chose their own dresses from a selection of 50’s inspired floral print options from Lindy Bop, which looked incredible on the day. To keep costs down she chose a mid grey waistcoat and trouser option for David from Next, whilst the groomsmen wore their own shirt, ties and braces.
“Our day went way too fast! It was a roller coaster ride of nerves, fear, joy, excitement, love, laughs, pride and happiness. There were so many moments of great joy, I think exchanging vows was the most special, David was the only one in the room as far as I was concerned and he said, I was the only person he saw. We decided to have photographs on our own before joining our family and friends at the reception, it was lovely to get a little quiet time to reflect on what had just happened!” Sarah-Jane added.
Now you’ve been on the other side of wedding planning, what advice do you have for bridal couples?
“Advice I was given was ‘it’s your day, do it your way’ I kept this in mind along the planning process and found it helpful. Remember your wedding should reflect you as a couple, your love and life together. Another was, ‘it all goes so fast, take time to savour all the precious moments’ it’s true, it’s over in the blink of an eye, that’s why I would recommend having time to yourselves before the festivities commence.”
