Good morning! Today we’re handing over to Sarah Fyffe Photography from Omagh. Sarah is one hugely talented lady and today is sharing her wisdom of how you can get the most from your Just Us shoot. Over to you, Sarah…
Most couples love the idea of having some gorgeous photographs taken together before they become Mr & Mrs! This is, perhaps, why the ‘Just Us’ session has become so popular in recent years.
As well as a bit of time out together and the potential for some beautiful portraits, the ‘Just Us’ shoot is an invaluable opportunity to get to know your photographer better and see the way they work. From a photographers point of view it’s a great time to get you to relax in front of the camera and see how you interact together, as a couple.
“It’s always much more relaxing for both the bride & groom and the photographer on the wedding day if there has been a ‘Just Us’ shoot.”
A lot of brides also find it a great time to experiment with hair and makeup to see what works best in the photographs.
The ‘Just Us’ session normally involves a morning or afternoon, or in the Summer, an evening session, which normally lasts around an hour and a half. Locations have ranged from forests, farmyards, beaches, mountain tops, light houses, city centres and fun fairs! The more personal the better!!
Some couples choose to frame a portrait with a large mount to make a signature board for guests to sign at the wedding. Some use the photographs for their invites or save the dates. Recently we had a wedding where the bride hung prints from their ‘Just Us’ shoot on string with little clothes pegs at the venue as decorations – this looked really cute.
You can dress up or down for your ‘Just Us’ session, some couples like to bring two outfits. For outdoor shoots I find natural colours work best like khaki greens, mustards and camels, and textures like wool, linen and lace come out well in the photographs. You can’t beat some nice accessories like a hat and jewellery to complete your look. For makeup wear a little more powder than normal and foundation with no SPF as this reflects the light and can make you look quite pale.
The ‘Just Us’ session is one of the most important elements of preparing for your wedding photography. It’s a great time for you to experience the style of your photographer and the way they work. This ensures that on your big day you are relaxed and confident with your choice of photographer.
