Our lovely couple, Kelly and Damian’s, relationship began with a Facebook poke! By the time they were on top of a rollercoaster at Alton Towers, Kelly knew their relationship was for life. “I ugly cried at the top and screamed to get off! Instead of being embarrassed by me, Damian guided me to safety – not that I was in any danger!” said Kelly. We’re delighted to be sharing their glamorous gold Christmas wedding, with photography from Patrick Duddy Photography.
Damian chose Friday 13th December to propose, proving it’s not unlucky for us all.
“We were home in Derry visiting for a family party. Before we left the hotel I noticed a fancy box sitting on the dresser – he prompted me to open it. When I did I saw an empty engagement ring box size hole in it, when I turned around enquire he was on one knee!” added Kelly.
Kelly turned to TV programmes like ‘Don’t Tell The Bride’ and ‘Say Yes To The Dress’ as well as online to find inspiration for their wedding day. “I took my time before I made any decisions as I often found I changed my mind a lot. If I wasn’t 100% happy with any small detail then I gave myself time to let inspiration strike,” she said.
Their December 2015 wedding was given a glamorous golden theme and included a string quartet at the ceremony and beautiful gold accents throughout. Kelly wore a sweetheart gown with lace bodice and full skirt from McElhinneys Bridal Rooms in Ballybofey. “It was the first dress I tried on and I knew it was perfect for me and the wedding. I tried on ten dresses and nothing gave me the feeling the first one did,” said Kelly.
Her four bridesmaids wore golden beaded Virgos Lounge dresses, whilst Damian and his grooms party wore classic black tux, hired from McElhinneys.
“The day was the fastest day of my life! I’ve been told this before but it doesn’t really strike you until the day. It went better than I could have ever imagined – I had worried myself silly for nothing. Damian’s highlight of the day was saying the vows and for me it was the first dance, our band, The Mindbenders were amazing and ensured the dance floor was never empty all night!” added Kelly.
