Maeve + Lorenzo: Giant’s Causeway Wedding Celebration

We’re spending the last few days of the summer holidays up at the North Coast so it seems only right that I share this really beautiful Giant’s Causeway wedding celebration from Peter Carvill Photography on the blog right now. Anyone who has been lucky enough to feel the magic of this glorious area of NI will totally understand why Maeve and Lorenzo chose this location for their reception. It’s a wedding with a difference, and as you know, I’m all for that!

Maeve was once a florist in NI, but now lives in Sydney (and is still a very talented florist!) with Italian musician, Lorenzo. The couple met at a bus stop in Bondi, Australia and after realising they lived in the same apartment block, they became inseparable.

“We did things a little differently. We had a surprise wedding in the Blue Mountains in New South Wales, Australia with our friends from Sydney on 21st March 2015. We disguised the wedding by inviting all our friends to celebrate Lorenzo’s 40th birthday. When they turned up to see the ‘birthday present reveal’ they were all incredibly surprised when we decided to get married there and then…wedding dress and all,” explained Maeve. “We planned our wedding ceremony in six weeks and it all successfully remained a secret. Our reception with family took a little longer as we were planning it from Sydney. The Causeway Hotel was the perfect venue, they were so incredibly helpful and went out of their way to accommodate us, from tailored menus to the Italian wine! The team are exceptional.”

“We decided what our priorities and budget were for each party then got planning. For us, the wedding in Sydney was about a great big party with friends. Our priority here was alcohol and great music. And we certainly got the party we were wanting. The music was exceptional as we had a four piece jazz band – which even enticed my husband up to play at his own wedding as the groove was on. He ended up playing for nearly two hours! For our wedding celebration in N. Ireland with our family, our priorities were great food and great wine. As we had Italian visitors, we completely tailored made a menu. The food was of Northern Ireland influence and the wines were Italian – perfect in every way,” said Maeve.

“From start to finish, everything was perfect. We were like guests at our own wedding and we had two of the best parties we have ever been at,” added Maeve. “We would both say the vows of our ceremony was the highlight – we wrote our entire ceremony from start and finish. For our vows we decided to free flow. We both didn’t read from a piece of paper or repeat after the celebrant. The words we both chose to use were so touching and will be with us forever and ever,” added Maeve.

Maeve’s Advice

Be a guest at your own wedding. Don’t worry about what needs to happen on the day, it will all be fine. I would also strongly suggest looking at pre-loved dresses if you want to save some money. Some dresses are as good as new and you can grab yourself a designer dress at an 1/8 of the price. I love a bargain and a bargain not one person would guess was pre-loved is an even better bargain!
