I’ve said it lots before, and I’m sure to say it again, but there is nothing quite like an engagement shoot on our glorious North Coast! Today we’re sharing Linden and Michael’s E Shoot captured by Marc Lawson. I am a huge fan of Marc’s relaxed and intimate take on photography, if you’re not keen being in front of the lens, Marc’s the person to put you at ease!
Our love story:
We met as background artists i.e. slightly awkward backing dancers, on the film set of a documentary called ‘Write About Love’ about the band Belle and Sebastian. We were studying English and Scottish Literature at the University of Glasgow at the time.
In November 2015, I was feeling a bit disappointed after an offer that Michael and I had made on a house fell through, so we had a cosy night in with comfort food in the form of delicious pizza and bottle of wine. Michael told me that he had a wee something to cheer me up, and when my curiosity was piqued, he instructed me to put on some fun music (I chose a Scott Walker record) and to wait for a minute or two while he left the room. When he returned, he was wearing socks, a dressing grown, and some underpants festooned with dinosaurs. He performed a highly dramatic dance in our living room and I fell about laughing. Then he got down on one knee, presented me with a beautiful diamond engagement ring from James Porter and Son, and I cried a lot and said yes. The proposal had been planned to coincide with successfully buying their first home, but when that didn’t quite happen, Michael decided to improvise and – with that magnificent dance – snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
Our engagement shoot:
A good photographer was very important to us both when we were planning our big day, and we looked at a lot of wedding photography websites and portfolios. When we saw Marc Lawson’s work we knew he was special. His photographs are informal but intimate and really creative. We decided that an engagement shoot would mark the occasion, but it would also prepare us well for wedding photography. In the end, we decided that a shoot by the sea in Portstewart would look beautiful – particularly because Mark is great at using natural light, and he takes incredible pictures of land and seascapes.
We couldn’t be happier that we chose Marc as our wedding photographer. From the date we first made contact with him until the day he delivered our beautiful wedding photographs, he was professional, friendly, quick to respond, and really kind. During our engagement shoot, Mark put us totally at ease, and gave us an idea of how the wedding photography would be carried out. We were amazed at how lovely our engagement photographs were, and we absolutely treasure the photographs from our wedding.
Our wedding plans:
Our wedding was on 3rd September 2016. It was genuinely the happiest, most joyful day of our lives. Our family and friends all pitched in and got involved, and offered creativity, talent, and encouragement. Castaway Catering provided a fresh, local, delicious wedding feast, local artist Kate Reid decorated our church and venue, and our chosen band, The Gents, filled the dance floor from their first song to their last. The wedding in Portstewart coincided with Portrush air show, and the events spilled over into Portstewart. As a result, our wedding had a flyover, fireworks, a brass band, and the whole town out partying all night as a backdrop. We couldn’t have planned it better!
