Married by Candlelight: Lynne + Dermot

Today we’re heading west to Fermanagh for Lynne and Dermot’s gorgeous Spring wedding at St.Michaels in Enniskillen, followed by their reception at Mill Park Hotel in Donegal Town. Their day was full of homely, personal touches, all added by Lynne and will help get you through this freezing Friday (not mentioning the snow!) and hopefully inspire your Big Day. Thanks to Fraser Stewart Photography for the gorgeous images to accompany their lovely story.

The couple first met in a local bar, Blakes of the Hollow in 2005. Dermot had been ditched by his friend (who was his Best Man) and soon got chatting to Lynne. Five months after meeting Dermot headed to New York for his university placement year and although early into their relationship, they both knew they wanted to make it work – and work it did!

The distance didn’t prove a problem and 11 years on Dermot planned a surprise proposal which included a stay at Belle Isle, a handmade A to Z book of their life together and a guitar performance of ‘Marry Me’ by Train.

“With both of us wanting to do the traditional wedding with all our family and friends, I knew I wanted the service in St.Michaels, Enniskillen. We had viewed a few venues but both of us have a soft spot for the Mill Park in Donegal Town and once we met with Mary we knew that’s where our reception would be. Straight away I knew I wanted to add some of my own personal touches as I have a bit of a creative side, so I started making my own invites. They took about six attempts as the first few didn’t pass the critical eye of Dermot and my mum!” explained Lynne.

The couple were keen to make the ceremony the most magical sight and with more of Lynne’s creativity they were married surrounded by candlelight. Lynne wore a beautiful lace gown which sat delicately on the shoulder creating a pretty V neckline. Her maids wore blush pink gowns to add warmth and prettiness to the day and Dermot looked very handsome in a velvet Hugo Boss jacket and bow tie.

Following their stunning chapel ceremony guests were treated to more of Lynne’s creative touches at their reception. As Lynne explained, “On the run up to the wedding I spotted an old style pick and mix stand in a local auction and text Dermot a picture saying I need this! We headed to the auction and after sitting over four hours waiting for it come up, I had the winning bid. I asked my friends at System Signs to re-spray it and add personalised sign made for it. ‘Mrs Carroll’s Candy Store’ was now open!” (C) Fraser Stewart | facebook.com/fraserstewartphotography (C) Fraser Stewart | facebook.com/fraserstewartphotography

The unique table plan was another of Lynne’s collectable projects. Throughout the planning she collected photo frames and made the back drop with wooden planks and her trusty tool box. Doesn’t it look fabulous?

Lynne chose a French Fancy wedding cake as it was the perfect style to match the Queen Anne side table Lynne had purchased especially for the day.

Lynne’s favourite moment: Getting ready in house, my mum walking me up aisle and the speeches.

Dermot’s favourite moment: Seeing Lynne walking up the aisle and the speeches.
