Happy Monday morning! We hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend and that the sun does manage to peep through at some point this week. Michael and Emma were the lucky winners of our Love Shoot competition from Photography by Marc Lawson. They chose to return to the beautiful venue the proposal happened; The Merchant Hotel and this morning we’ve a gorgeous selection of their images, a great start to a week filled with love on The Promise!
Our love story:
“Michael and I have known each other for over 10 years through a mutual family friend. We never really spoke apart from a hello or the odd two minute conversation, until one night something just clicked – that moment when you find that both of you are staring for that second too long and both look away! Nothing happened but the seed of curiosity was planted. The funny thing is I would never really see Michael around but I seemed to see him everywhere after that look! It was only after we both attended a charity event two weeks later that the rest soon became history. I say I was swept off my feet but Michael says he shot magic blow darts at my ankles!”
The big question:
“Michael works away a lot, sometimes as far as Russia, which can be hard emotionally, especially when phone calls are sporadic. But this one call turned out to be the best phone call I have ever received. Michael suggested that we go and look at engagement rings when he arrived home from Russia at the end of the following week – I was over the moon. The princess in me had finally found her prince!
In November we spent the day choosing the ring, hanging onto each other like we had just met. Choosing the ring together was the best moment, happiness just consumed me as I found ‘the one’ and I began to cry, the shop assistant then mopped up my tears with Champagne! This was the last time I saw my beautiful ring – I left it completely up to Michael as to how he was actually going to pop the question.
It wasn’t until January when Michael and I went on our regular date night that he proposed. I had bought us a Groupon deal for dinner in the Northern Whig, however Michael kept mentioning this cocktail that his brother had recommended, Dark & Stormy, and suggested we go to the Spaniard to check it out. We stayed there for a bit then after sending numerous photos of this cocktail to his brother he said they do Dark & Stormys in The Merchant Hotel, lets go there for one. While in the Merchant we got the cocktails and just as we were about to finish he said his bother had mentioned that there was a bar on the third floor- who was I to argue, it was the Merchant after all! As I followed him along and into the lift I looked around admiring all the pictures and I didn’t know where I was! I told Michael we were lost, there’s no bar here, he casually took a key card out of his pocket, opened a door revealing the nicest room I’ve ever seen. As I approached the entrance I saw the bouquet of roses along with a bucket of Champagne and sitting there in its little box was my beautiful diamond ring. I was so much in shock I covered my face and I heard Michael telling me how much he loved me and asking me to be his wife. Of course I said yes and the celebrations continued for a few days after that. Michael had done this perfectly – enlisting my florist best friend for help and had my overnight bag packed.”
Our E Shoot:
“We were very lucky to have won the shoot with Marc via the blog. Michael has never been in the country for any of my birthdays so we decided to take up a special offer and stay in the Merchant again. We thought while we were there it would be the perfect location to do the photo shoot as that’s where he had proposed. Marc immediately made Michael and I feel comfortable. The ABC game we played was great fun with every photo capturing the happiness that Michael and I share. Each smile was a true smile and this itself was a reflection of how much fun we had that day. Marc took us around the Cathedral Quarter and other little spots. He clearly has a flare for finding the perfect setting!”
Our wedding plans:
“Our wedding is on the 18.06.16 at Lusty Beg Island. I am very much enjoying the planning process, sharing ideas with my family and trying on dresses with my daughter has been the highlight so far. Its difficult with Michael not being in the country but hopefully it will all come together on the day.”
Thanks to Michael and Emma for sharing their lovely story and to Marc for the beautiful images.
