We’ve a busy week ahead here at The Promise with three local real weddings to share as well as other treats, and today we’re kicking off with Fiona and Gareth’s beautiful handmade Ballygally Castle wedding that was photographed by one of our favourite Directory suppliers, Fiona Jamieson Photography.
I’ve just realised how quickly time has gone by on the blog – we shared Fiona and Gareth’s Botanic gardens engagement shoot almost 18 months ago now – check it out here and catch up on their love story.
After spending ten days on holiday after they got engaged, Fiona and Gareth had ten days to plan their Big Day, and plan they did as when they returned home they immediately visited Ballygally Castle Hotel on the famous Causeway Costal Route and fell in love with the location and hotel facilities, settling on a New Years Day wedding date – what better way to kick off a new year!
“Once the venue and date were sorted, we set about looking for a photographer and a band as they seemed to be the things that book up the quickest. A friend had recommended the photographer from her cousins wedding, Fiona Jamieson, saying that not only did she take great pics but she was the voice of calm throughout the day! We met up with Fiona at the Quirky Wedding Fayre a few weeks later and hit it off straight away. Once we’d seen her fabulous portfolio of albums we were sold!” explained Fiona. “Finding a band wasn’t as easy! We spent week after week attending showcases but couldn’t quite find what we were looking for. Music is very important to Gareth and I so we wanted a band who could cover a variety of era’s but keep the dance floor packed all night. A family friend recommended The Professionals and when we went to see them at a showcase we booked them on the spot!”
With lots of friends and family chipping in and offering their help Fiona and Gareth had their wedding plans firmly wrapped up with months to spare.
“We had lots of family and friends offer to help us with various things for the day, from dressing the room to baking the cake, to arranging the bouquets, and we were more than happy to take them up on their offer! It made the day extra special to see all the little touches that had been provided by loved ones,” added Fiona.
“The day itself was perfect from start to finish. Lots of people had warned us that the day would fly in so we made sure to take in every single second. Everything seemed to go off without a hitch, or at least if anything did go wrong we didn’t notice! On what was an extremely wet and windy day, the clouds even cleared up briefly for us to get some outside photos along the stunning Antrim Coast. Looking at our album at the blue skies and green green grass, you would never know it was the depth of winter,” said Fiona.
If I was to do the day all over again, I don’t think I would change a thing. The best advice anyone gave me was to enjoy every single minute of it and I certainly did. If I was to give advice to anyone planning their big day I would say don’t stress about the little things, it will all come together in the end and the most important thing is that you’ll be married, surrounded by all your loved ones. Don’t stress out over table plans or favours because no one remembers them anyway!
