Pre wedding or engagement shoots are a great way of building your confidence in front of a camera before the big day, as local couple Niall and Claire found out on their shoot with Photography by Brideen in the beautiful setting of Botanic Gardens, Belfast.
Our love story:
Niall and I met in Sydney, Australia. A very long story cut short, we were both out for the night with our own friends in a bar and our paths crossed. We haven’t looked back since.
The big question:
We were holidaying in America in the summer of 2012. We were in Napa Valley-a beautiful wine region in California. We had gone out for dinner the night before and had done some wine tasting. Niall had said he was taking it easy and didn’t want to sample too many new wines as he was driving early the next day. The plan was to get up early the next morning and make our way to San Francisco- hopefully avoiding the daily madness of the San Francisco rush hour. Off to bed I went content that I had experienced what Napa Valley had to offer… little did I know what was ahead of me the next morning!
Niall’s alarm went off at crazy o’clock and it was still pitch black outside. I knew he had planned on going early but this was madness. Off we went in the car anyhow, I wasn’t really paying much attention to the direction in which we were heading. We pulled in Domaine Chandon winery and I was extremely puzzled as to why. Niall then told me he had booked a hot air balloon flight over the vineyards at sunrise. I couldn’t contain my excitement- even if it was still the crazy hours of the morning! We had our hot air balloon flight over the vine yards as the sun was rising and I can honestly say it was something I will never forget-such a special memory.
We landed safely and we had to make our way back to the shuttle. The scenery was just breathtaking, the sky was red and there were still a few hot air balloons in the sky-it was just gorgeous. I stopped to take a look at the view and turned around to find Niall on his knee. He then asked the question to which I think I responded ‘yes’! I was in shock, completely overwhelmed but I simply couldn’t have been happier. It was perfect!
We arrived in San Francisco later that day and I got the most beautiful ring in De Beers and we celebrated our engagement with dinner and drinks in Gary Danko’s.
Our E Shoot:
We chose to have an e-shoot as we both wouldn’t be great in front of cameras and tend to shy away. We thought it was a good way of getting used to the lens. Whilst doing the e-shoot we couldn’t have been more at ease with Brideen and Deci -such a relaxed couple and just what we needed! Obviously with the weather at home being so temperamental we didn’t decide on the venue until a few days beforehand. Brideen had suggested Botanic Gardens in Belfast which was perfect! We ended up getting a beautiful day in the middle of January with no rain. We were very lucky!
Our wedding was amazing- a day filled with laughter. We decided to get married in Mohill, County Leitrim. Niall’s grand uncle Fr John married us and the ceremony itself was so special and personal for us. We had the reception in the gorgeous Lough Rynn Castle surrounded by family and friends. A fabulous day had by all!!
Thanks to Niall and Claire for sharing their day, and to Photography by Brideen for the images. You can check out the big day, right here, very soon!
