When you see one photo from a wedding and your stomach does a little flip, well, that’s good! And that’s exactly what happened when I first saw Sarah-Jayne and Mel’s wedding. Married in the majestic surroundings of Armagh Cathedral, the couple know a thing or two about style and throwing a memorable event! To top the celebration off, Simon O’Neill from Ciaran O’Neill Photography in Lurgan was the man behind the lens, capturing every last beautiful detail.
Sarah-Jayne and Mel first met in 2011 at a mutual friends wedding at Lough Erne Resort, but it wasn’t until several months later in May 2012 that they went on their first official date. The couple knew from the very beginning how things would pan out and were engaged nine months later.
“Together Mel and I had chosen my ring just before Christmas in 2011, but Mel kept the ring promising he’d propose around Easter, so when he asked in January during a weekend in Clontarf Castle, I was so shocked! It was a complete surprise – that morning I was looking in the mirror putting my makeup on, when I turned around there he was on one knee with the sapphire and diamond ring I had always wanted. I was speechless, eventually I uttered yes and the planning began immediately!”
Sarah-Jayne quickly became addicted to Pinterest and wedding blogs and the planning was soon in full swing.
“We didn’t choose a specific theme, I just chose what I loved from both classic and modern ideas and married them together for the overall look on the day. For my wedding dress I looked around for months and fell in love with the simple design and beautiful fabric of the Jesus Peiro gown. With gown in hand I took it to Dublin based designer, Maire Forkin, who changed the dress to exactly what I wanted.”
Sarah-Jayne and Mel were married in Armagh Cathedral on Friday 11th July, with the following reception in Lough Erne Resort. The wedding was the perfect blend of timeless and classic elegance, and nods to modern fashion. Sarah-Jayne’s four bridesmaids wore custom designed Una Rodden dresses which featured a fifties bow neck detail and three quarter length straight skirts. Stacey from s.a.k Designs created the makeup looks for the entire bridal party and brought her calming vibes (and trusty Rescue Remedy) on the morning, which helped settle any nerves, as well as make the girls up to their most beautiful. Edel McKearney Hair Boutique and Hello Gorgeous were behind the contemporary hairstyles with Sarah-Jayne opting for a classic draped bun to show off her beautiful veil.
The impressive surroundings of Armagh Cathedral were the perfect venue for Capella Caeciliana choir to perform during the traditional ceremony, which went without a hitch!
“The Lough Erne were spectacular on the day, they provided first class food and service and went out of their way to make our day perfect! They freshly baked macaroons on the morning of the wedding for our wedding favours, which were a big hit with the guests.”
“Thankfully there were no disasters however the highlight of the day was most definitely the grooms mens song. They put together a song about Mel and I and called themselves Moyzone! Their performance at the top table was hilarious and got a standing ovation by the guests! This highlight was closely followed by a performance from Patricia Treacy – she gave a captivating performance throughout the meal and helped to set the tone for the evening! I would highly recommend her to any of you lovely brides to be!”
“My advice for other brides and grooms is really, really savour every moment and have fun, it will be the quickest day of your life!”
