White Rocks Adventure Session by LIT Photography

August 7, 2018

If you’ve followed me here, on Facebook or Instagram for any length of time, you’ll know my love of the glorious North Coast (so much so I can’t say the North Coast, always ‘the glorious North Coast’!). Well today we have a fun and relaxed adventure session on White Rocks beach with awesome couple, Josh and Emma. Their carefree and fun attitude is easy to see through the images and they even managed a quick splash in the sea. The session was captured by the very talented (and total Instagram goddess!) Lauren from LIT Photography. Thanks for getting in touch and sharing this gorgeous bunch of images with us Lauren! Now over to words from the lady herself…

“Josh and Emma have been together since they were at school and are such a fun laid back couple. They love coming to Portrush for dates on the beach so we had a fun date night shoot. It wasn’t styled, but we pushed the boundaries a little with some adventures in the sea. We all had the best laugh and so much fun. I had a vision of what I really wanted to achieve, but these two surpassed that and more with their fun nature. Adventure sessions are probably my favourite type of session because you really get to know couples and have a lot of fun. With the unreal locations right on our doorstep on the Causeway Coast, there’s nowhere better to explore.”

The Martins: A North Coast Family Session by RinkaDink Studio

April 10, 2018

Got cute kids who deserve to to be front of the camera – this one’s for you then, but first a little story…

A long, long time ago (we’re talking 10 years!), I picked this photographer up in Portadown and took her to Galgorm Resort for a photo shoot recce – we had a fun morning, she survived my dodgy driving/bad jokes/weird car snacks and the shoot was a great success. That girl was Janine and all these years later, although she has hung up her wedding photographer hat she is still taking incredible photographs alongside Lindsay, her fellow girl boss and partner in crime. These two run RinkaDink, a specialist children’s photography studio in Belfast, where they take the BEST photos of your kids – believe me, I have a lot of photos to prove it! You can view their work at www.rinkadinkstudio.com.

Today I’m SO excited to share the beautiful Martin family’s coastal session taken by Janine last summer. Janine and Lindsay work from their softly lit, cosy studio at Portview Trade Centre on Newtownards Road in Belfast which is full of the coolest kid-friendly props, and their NewbCube©. Last summer, purely by chance Janine happened to be holidaying on the coast at the same time as Claire, Chris and their gorgeous kids and the off the cuff beach session came to fruition – yes, we’re super glad too!

Thanks to the Martin family for sharing their special summer memories  & to Janine and Lindsay for being so RAD!

Port Magic: Linden + Michael’s Engagement Shoot

February 8, 2017
Photography by Marc Lawson, North Coast engagement shoot | The Promise NI

I’ve said it lots before, and I’m sure to say it again, but there is nothing quite like an engagement shoot on our glorious North Coast! Today we’re sharing Linden and Michael’s E Shoot captured by Marc Lawson. I am a huge fan of Marc’s relaxed and intimate take on photography, if you’re not keen being in front of the lens, Marc’s the person to put you at ease!

Our love story:

We met as background artists i.e. slightly awkward backing dancers, on the film set of a documentary called ‘Write About Love’ about the band Belle and Sebastian. We were studying English and Scottish Literature at the University of Glasgow at the time.

The proposal:

In November 2015, I was feeling a bit disappointed after an offer that Michael and I had made on a house fell through, so we had a cosy night in with comfort food in the form of delicious pizza and bottle of wine. Michael told me that he had a wee something to cheer me up, and when my curiosity was piqued, he instructed me to put on some fun music (I chose a Scott Walker record) and to wait for a minute or two while he left the room. When he returned, he was wearing socks, a dressing grown, and some underpants festooned with dinosaurs. He performed a highly dramatic dance in our living room and I fell about laughing. Then he got down on one knee, presented me with a beautiful diamond engagement ring from James Porter and Son, and I cried a lot and said yes. The proposal had been planned to coincide with successfully buying their first home, but when that didn’t quite happen, Michael decided to improvise and – with that magnificent dance – snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Our engagement shoot:

A good photographer was very important to us both when we were planning our big day, and we looked at a lot of wedding photography websites and portfolios. When we saw Marc Lawson’s work we knew he was special. His photographs are informal but intimate and really creative. We decided that an engagement shoot would mark the occasion, but it would also prepare us well for wedding photography. In the end, we decided that a shoot by the sea in Portstewart would look beautiful – particularly because Mark is great at using natural light, and he takes incredible pictures of land and seascapes.

We couldn’t be happier that we chose Marc as our wedding photographer. From the date we first made contact with him until the day he delivered our beautiful wedding photographs, he was professional, friendly, quick to respond, and really kind. During our engagement shoot, Mark put us totally at ease, and gave us an idea of how the wedding photography would be carried out. We were amazed at how lovely our engagement photographs were, and we absolutely treasure the photographs from our wedding.

Our wedding plans:

Our wedding was on 3rd September 2016. It was genuinely the happiest, most joyful day of our lives. Our family and friends all pitched in and got involved, and offered creativity, talent, and encouragement. Castaway Catering provided a fresh, local, delicious wedding feast, local artist Kate Reid decorated our church and venue, and our chosen band, The Gents, filled the dance floor from their first song to their last. The wedding in Portstewart coincided with Portrush air show, and the events spilled over into Portstewart. As a result, our wedding had a flyover, fireworks, a brass band, and the whole town out partying all night as a backdrop. We couldn’t have planned it better!

Blogging Bride: Jess’ North Coast Hen Party

November 8, 2016
blogging bride jess hen party

Morning lovelies! Wow, how cold has the weather become over the last few days? The gorgeous days of autumn are nearing an end I think, winter is on our doorstep!

Today we’re catching up with our second blogging bride, Jess.

Jess is sharing her action-packed hen party up on the North Coast, which will soon be followed by her gorgeous wedding day…

There are a few things that I knew I definitely wanted for my hen party. The first was that I wanted to be involved in the planning. Secondly, it had to involve food and some kind of water sports (the basics, you know?)! Thirdly, I wanted a small hen party to enjoy it fully with everyone there.

So let’s dive right in to what I did to celebrate getting hitched!

My bridesmaids and close friends were overwhelmingly amazing for the whole thing. Between organising, baking and presents I realised how special everyone was to me. My hen party actually happened on my birthday so that I could spend it celebrating “Jess is 22 and ready to say I do”.

Everyone arrived on the Saturday to a beautiful vintage brunch at my parents apartment. All the china was from my engagement presents as I had asked for vintage china rather than a dinner set. I made little tags with each girls name on it and put them on a lemonade bottle as their present. On each of their place settings was the invitation to my wedding which made it extra special as everyone opened their invitations at once! We ate lots of croissants, crepes and even a tractor birthday cake (all thanks to my sister for making it!).

After eating our body weight in crepes, we grabbed our bags and headed to Portballintrae for paddle boarding with Surf SUP NI. This was something on my bucket list. We got to learn the basic skills of paddle boarding alongside a few games -everyone loved it. One of the funniest things is trying to get a bunch of girls in to tight wetsuits though!

As we finished up, we all walked up to get our towels and I was in a daydream thinking “This has been so wonderful…” when I accidentally walked straight in to a sign – there was blood everywhere! I bashed my nose whilst cutting my gums, nose and forehead. I laughed it all off for being so stupid but my goodness was it sore! The next few weeks followed with a black nose and sore head. Whoops!

In the evening we had dinner at Tides restaurant, which was delicious, and finished the night with some brilliant bridal games planned by my bridesmaids.

The next day we went to Angel Cake Bakery for a cupcake class with Kathy who also did my wonderful wedding cake. She had a beautiful brunch for us with croissants, cake and different types of tea. Her studio is so pretty with vintage touches. She taught us how to make icing flowers and decorated our own cupcakes to take home. Delicious end to it the weekend.

It was such a special weekend getting all my friends together to celebrate the next stage in my life. Your hen party is also a time to celebrate the support of good friends as well as to celebrate getting married.

See you soon when I will be sharing my wedding day! Jess x

Maeve + Lorenzo: Giant’s Causeway Wedding Celebration

August 22, 2016

We’re spending the last few days of the summer holidays up at the North Coast so it seems only right that I share this really beautiful Giant’s Causeway wedding celebration from Peter Carvill Photography on the blog right now. Anyone who has been lucky enough to feel the magic of this glorious area of NI will totally understand why Maeve and Lorenzo chose this location for their reception. It’s a wedding with a difference, and as you know, I’m all for that!

Maeve was once a florist in NI, but now lives in Sydney (and is still a very talented florist!) with Italian musician, Lorenzo. The couple met at a bus stop in Bondi, Australia and after realising they lived in the same apartment block, they became inseparable.

“We did things a little differently. We had a surprise wedding in the Blue Mountains in New South Wales, Australia with our friends from Sydney on 21st March 2015. We disguised the wedding by inviting all our friends to celebrate Lorenzo’s 40th birthday. When they turned up to see the ‘birthday present reveal’ they were all incredibly surprised when we decided to get married there and then…wedding dress and all,” explained Maeve. “We planned our wedding ceremony in six weeks and it all successfully remained a secret. Our reception with family took a little longer as we were planning it from Sydney. The Causeway Hotel was the perfect venue, they were so incredibly helpful and went out of their way to accommodate us, from tailored menus to the Italian wine! The team are exceptional.”

“We decided what our priorities and budget were for each party then got planning. For us, the wedding in Sydney was about a great big party with friends. Our priority here was alcohol and great music. And we certainly got the party we were wanting. The music was exceptional as we had a four piece jazz band – which even enticed my husband up to play at his own wedding as the groove was on. He ended up playing for nearly two hours! For our wedding celebration in N. Ireland with our family, our priorities were great food and great wine. As we had Italian visitors, we completely tailored made a menu. The food was of Northern Ireland influence and the wines were Italian – perfect in every way,” said Maeve.

“From start to finish, everything was perfect. We were like guests at our own wedding and we had two of the best parties we have ever been at,” added Maeve. “We would both say the vows of our ceremony was the highlight – we wrote our entire ceremony from start and finish. For our vows we decided to free flow. We both didn’t read from a piece of paper or repeat after the celebrant. The words we both chose to use were so touching and will be with us forever and ever,” added Maeve.

Maeve’s Advice

Be a guest at your own wedding. Don’t worry about what needs to happen on the day, it will all be fine. I would also strongly suggest looking at pre-loved dresses if you want to save some money. Some dresses are as good as new and you can grab yourself a designer dress at an 1/8 of the price. I love a bargain and a bargain not one person would guess was pre-loved is an even better bargain!
