May 22, 2018

Summer Tops

Nothing shows off a great sun kissed complexion better than a white top. I don’t think it is possible to have too many in your wardrobe during the summer – well that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!

Quick and easily styled with pale blue denim jeans, or if the weather is on your side a pair of shorts – effortless dressing is something I really adore about the summer! I picked up a new organic cotton top in Avoca at the weekend by Selected, it is so light and comfy, we just need the weather back again. The purchase inspired me to share some more white beauties currently screaming out to be in our summer wardrobe!

Wedding date: Saturday 27th August 2016

Ceremony: St Davogs, Dromore

Reception: Mill Park Hotel, Donegal

Our Planning & Wedding Style: Once we had booked the venue and mass everything came together pretty quickly! We chose to focus our budget on hiring a fantastic photographer and on my dream wedding dress. I had three bridesmaids who wore soft pink multiway dresses which worked perfectly with the elegant theme of the day and the small rustic touches we added.

Our Style: I got my dress in Mc Elhinney’s Bridal Rooms in Ballybofey. It was from the 2016 Ronald Joyce preview collection. I chose five dresses to try on and left my favourite to the last. I just knew it was my dress even before I had in over my waist! My maids dresses were from Debenhams and the flower girls dresses were picked up from Monsoon.

Our Highlights & Advice: The day went perfectly. The music was my highlight, we were piped into the reception  which was very exciting! I’d advise brides to give themselves plenty of time to plan and to keep records of all payments and dates.

Smiles & Summer Florals at Cabra Castle: Rachel + Jonni

March 22, 2017

Spring has been teasing us this past week, milder and brighter weather followed by a flurry of snow just to keep us on our toes! Today we’re hopping back to last summer with Rachel and Jonni’s wedding, a special day that I’ve been really excited to share. Almost three years ago now we featured Rachel’s sister Jane’s wedding, it was one of my all-time favourites, so I’m delighted to bring you more celebrations from this beautiful family. Thanks to Fraser Stewart Photography for the incredible images and Paper Sails for the stunning film – enjoy and happy Wednesday!

Couple: Rachel + Jonni Trimble

Rachel and Jonni met when she moved to Belfast over four years ago. Jonni had began studying at Stranmillis and Rachel had started working there. From their very first date the couple were inseparable!

Proposal: Jonni proposed to me in December 2015 so we were only engaged six moths before we got married. We had booked a trip to Paris before Christmas for a few nights and while we were there Jonni proposed at the
top of the Eiffel Tower - it was amazing!

Wedding date: Tuesday 5th July 2016

Ceremony: Omagh Baptist Church

Reception: Cabra Castle, Kingscourt

Our Planning & Wedding Style: We both knew we didn’t want a long engagement so decided that we would get married in the summer. We wanted a small wedding and one that was very stress free, so the week after we came back from Paris we viewed Cabra Castle and fell in love with it and booked it that day. About a week later I had flowers, makeup, my wedding dress and the bridesmaids dresses all sorted! It didn’t take long to organise everything which was great and the relaxed approach suited both Jonni and I! We didn’t have any particular theme at all, I chose what I loved and took it from there.

Our Style: I got my wedding dress from Blush on the Lisburn Road in Belfast. The staff were so friendly and I loved everything about the boutique. I knew I wanted something simple so as soon as I tried on my dress I knew it was the one, and it was within my budget which was even better. My maids wore Victoria Lou multi-way dresses in pale grey. The dresses were amazing and I would definitely recommend her.

Jonni and the grooms party wore two-piece suits from Burton with mini floral print ties to add colour.

Our Highlights: We both had the best day ever! My highlight was just getting to marry Jonni. Jonni says the highlight for him was the food (and also marrying me apparently!!)

Our Advice: I would say don’t stress about planning your wedding as it all comes together in the end.

Old Fashioned Love and Romance at Darver Castle: Avril + Andrew

March 6, 2017
Darver Castle, Rustic Wedding | The Promise NI

Who doesn’t love afternoon tea?

Our beautiful couple today, Avril and Andrew based their summer wedding around their love of handmade decorations, charity shop finds and spoilt their guests with a delicious afternoon tea.

After meeting at a youth group, Avril and Andrew soon knew their relationship was special when Avril left to go travelling for six months and called home everyday to speak to Andrew!

Proposal: Andrew proposed on our one year anniversary. He took me to a fancy restaurant for dinner which was followed by a boat trip around Cork harbour taking us to their destination, Currabinny Pier (the place Andrew took me on our first date!). With about 10 minutes of light left so that the candles could take over and with music playing over the boat’s PA system and a huge ‘Will you marry me?” sign hanging off the pier,  Andrew finally pulled the ring from his pocket and asked the all important question! I was then asked to set off an air horn which signalled a friend to release fireworks across the bay. It was just so romantic and I was blown away - we even made the local paper in Cork!

Wedding date: Monday 25th July 2016

Ceremony: Knockbride Church of Ireland, Baileborough

Reception: Darver Castle, County Louth

Our Planning & Wedding Style: We gave ourselves one year to plan the wedding. We got engaged on June 22nd and got married the following July. We went for a vintage theme, with rustic and romantic décor at the church and afternoon tea. We chose lemon as our main colour as it was bright and fun and really complemented the rose pink and ivory roses in the bouquets.

I made lots of to-do lists and so many friends and family were happy to help, and of course our two great families supported and helped us and were always on hand for advise. Living in opposite ends of the country for the planning process wasn’t easy but we made it work by making good use of the time Andrew was up and sharing the workload as best we could! I really enjoyed the planning process, it was loads of fun! I became a Pinterest addict by the time the wedding came up but I think that happens to all us brides!

We just loved Darver Castle the minute we saw it and knew it suited the style we wanted perfectly. Also the ceremony was the most important part for us so we put lots into decorating the church and planning the afternoon tea as well as having the ceremony just how we wanted it. We saved a lot by doing much of the decorating ourselves. Andrew even used his new found carpentry skills to make a juice bar and I collected china cups and props from charity shops. It’s amazing what you can source and do yourself if you plan ahead and are organised.

Our Style: I always had an idea of what dress I thought I would like but that completed changed when I went searching for the perfect dress. It took me quite a number of shops to pick the perfect one. Don’t get me wrong they were fab but I just needed that wow moment! When I tried on my Mori Lee gown I just felt like a princess and I knew it was the one! It was a beautiful chiffon fabric with crystal beading and an illusion sweetheart neckline and open back detail. I always wanted to wear a veil so I wore a full length one which complemented the dress perfectly. My maids wore cowl neck chiffon dresses in buttercup.

Our Highlights: We just laughed all day! After all the planning and sometimes worrying and panicking, I just enjoyed the day! We laughed so much and with all our favourite people around us to share in our joy we just loved it.  Our ceremony was amazing. We had so many of our close friends involved and Andrew’s brother marrying us was just so special. My sister and Andrew’s mum sang and it was just so sentimental and meant so much to us both.

The guys at Head & Heart were so professional, so easy going and just faded into the background on the day perfectly.

Beautiful Traditional Wedding at Lough Erne Resort: Evangeline + Tristin

February 23, 2017
Traditional Wedding | Lough Erne Resort | Erica Irvine Photography | The Promise NI

Wow! I hope Storm Doris hasn’t affected you too much today – bring on Spring, I say!

Very often I see an image from a local wedding on social media and know immediately I want to see more. Evangeline and Tristin’s day was one of those – when you know, you know – all thanks to the sweetest image of Tristin’s Grandfather tossing confetti, captured by the couples photographer, Erica Irvine Photography.

Their sweet early summer wedding was held in the Ross Suite at Lough Erne Resort in Enniskillen, which is currently getting a new look. If you would like to be one of the first to see the newly refurbished Ross Suite and visit their Wedding Showcase on 11th and 12th March, register your interest at www.lougherneresort.com/love.

Wedding date: Wednesday 18th May 2016

Ceremony: Sixmilecross Presbyterian Church

Reception: Lough Erne Resort, Enniskillen

Our Planning & Wedding Style: I was extremely relaxed and didn't fuss over anything, I am a very decisive person so I knew what sort of day I wanted. I wanted a plain and simple traditional day and therefore it didn't really take too much stressful planning! I think it was the best approach and it meant I enjoyed the experience of organising our day, Tristin of course just went with!

We really wanted our venue to be special. We had a small, intimate wedding so we wanted our guests to experience the best at our day in all areas especially their meal - I would say the venue was pretty important to us! The Lough Erne Resort was our perfect choice, it is beautiful and elegant and has the most helpful of staff to accommodate your every need in the lead up to your day and also on the day itself.

We didn’t choose a specific wedding theme, just what we loved and we ran the colour of my bridesmaid throughout our whole day including it in the flowers, favours and table names.

Our Style: For my wedding gown I knew exactly what style I wanted and I had a picture in my head of what it would look like. I saw a dress on Serendipity Bridal Boutiques Facebook page and when I visited and tried it on I knew it was the one! I only went to that one shop - no fuss!

We hired the groomswear from SD Kells in Omagh. We found they had a great selection and we got all the men kitted out in there for the big day! I added paisley print ties which I had also incorporated into our invitations.

Our Highlights: The day went brilliantly! I couldn't have asked for it to go any better really, I was 100% chilled, calm and relaxed I actually think I floated through the whole day on air!!

The highlight of our day was probably the privilege of having two very close friends of ours singing and playing at our wedding. Stuart sang at our ceremony and Alistair played the organ for the whole ceremony and also accompanied Stuart singing his piece on the organ, this really was so special to have both friends take such part in our day!

Rustic & Romantic Tones of Ireland for a Destination Wedding by The Lous: Rachel + Jesse

February 15, 2017
Ireland destination wedding, The Lous, Ballintaggart House | The Promise NI

Good morning, I hope you’re approaching hump day with a smile, I know I am! After the technical nightmare I can finally share Rachel and Jesses’ super inspiring destination wedding today. It was such a gorgeous and meaningful event, and Rachel has been kind enough to include lots of her destination planning tips. Thanks as ever to Lou and Louie from The Lous for the delightful images.

Couple: Rachel + Jesse Benshosan

American couple, Rachel and Jesse originally met online and after talking for many weeks decided to meet. Their first official date was at an Irish pub called Sláinte, which is pretty ironic given the headed to the emerald isle to say I do!

Proposal: The proposal happened on July 16, 2015; the day before Jesse’s 30th birthday. We were about to embark on a Cruise out of Miami and we decided to stay the night before we left at The Ritz-Carlton, Key Biscayne. It’s one of our favourite resorts and I wanted to do something special for his big day! Well, little did I know he had a plan of his own! Jesse and I decided to go for a nice walk along the beach, and funny enough as we were walking we both blurted out loud how ugly the beach was! Secretly, Jesse had planned to propose on the beach. We immediately decided to turn around to head back to the resort. As we were walking towards to grounds of the resort, Jesse stopped on this beautiful, open spaced lawn area in the center of the resort. Before I knew it, Jesse blurted out “Well Rachel…” and that’s when I knew. He was on one knew holding a beautiful red box with the most delicate pear shaped diamond I had ever seen.

Wedding date: Wednesday 15th June 2016

Ceremony: St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dingle

Reception: Ballintaggart House, Dingle

Our Planning & Wedding Style: I knew from the moment Jesse proposed that I was having an Ireland wedding. During my time in college, I was given the opportunity to study in Dublin for a semester and I completely fell in love with the country, I knew one day I would be back. From the day Jesse proposed I started researching Irish Weddings, and did the typical bride “Pinterest-ing” and came across a photographer who shot a lot of Ireland weddings, within my findings I came across Aislinn Events. I immediately sent Annie Burne an email and from that moment on, the Irish Wedding magic began! Annie helped me the entire step of the way. In Florida I am a wedding planner myself, however planning something from another country away, was a little more difficult. Annie set me up with all the vendors and locations I needed. She helped me every step of the way and I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing team of vendors on our special day.

We didn’t necessarily have a theme to our wedding. However, I did really love the rustic, romantic look. I mixed our main colour, hunter green with soft pinks and ivory tones. Jesse is a huge New York Jets (NFL) fan, and I really wanted him to have an input on the wedding details. When we first started planning, I said to him “Do you have any colours you’d like to see in the wedding” and of course he said “Jets Green”. So there you have it that was our colour!

Our Budget: I set my budget at $25,000 for the wedding day alone. That did not include travel or my dress.

My sister had her wedding in Italy, and the best advice she gave me was to invest my money in my photographer. I took her advice and began my search. It was the best decision I made, to hire The Lous!

Secondly, I spent a lot of money on my dress. I had a vision of what I wanted, and I refused to have the typical sleeveless, plain gown that most brides have. I wanted something unique and something that reflected me as an individual.

Thirdly, I wanted my flowers to be absolutely beautiful. Yes, I agree, it’s a waste of money because they just throw them out the next day…but seriously? Flowers can take a wedding to a next level!

I really tried to stay within budget. I would say having a destination wedding you are living without the idea of having a huge wedding. I had to give up on the idea of having all my family there, and to me that was a very difficult decision to make. In the end, I didn’t have my three brothers there, their wives, or eight of the nieces and nephews. Those are choices I made, but at the end of the day I am very thankful I had the family I did there to celebrate with us.

Our Style: Being a wedding planner here in the states, I kept seeing the same exact dress at every wedding. The basic sleeveless, puffy, and sometimes rather plain white dress, and while all of my brides looked beautiful in their own way, I knew that for my special day I was going to have something unique. I initially decided I was going to wear my mom’s wedding gown. She too had the beautiful, fully laced, long sleeve elegant classic look that I really wanted from back in the 1970’s era. We decided to go into our favourite boutique CC’s Bridal in St. Petersburg, Florida just to get a few ideas for ways we could change it up. Well, little did we know, the first dress I tried on was out of this world beautiful. My sister, my mom and I all looked at each other and knew it was the one.

My sister, Marie truly looks beautiful in greens, she has stunning green eyes, fair skin, and dark burgundy red hair so I knew our choice of hunter green would work great on her! We went with a long, flowy dress and I’m so thankful we did because in the next couple months she found out she was expecting her third baby!

The flower girl dress I found at Nordstroms, here in the States. It was very simple and elegant for my niece, Siena. I decided to add a diamond rhinestone silk belt to give it a little pop. I knew she was going to have a floral crown, so I wanted to keep her dress as simple, but still princess-like as I could. She loved it!

Our Highlights

Rachel: The highlight of that day for me was putting my dress on. Seeing it all come together as I imagined was just the moment I realised that this was all really happening. From that moment on, I just couldn’t wait to see Jesse!

Jesse: Seeing Rachel walk down the aisle.

Our Advice: Some advice I give my current brides is to make sure you let everything happen organically. A wedding day will never go exactly how you imagine it, or plan it. The moments that take you by surprise, good or bad are what make your day so special. Take it all in and just enjoy the moment. They say it goes by fast…and it does!

Pretty in Pleats

June 14, 2016
Pleated Skirt Inspiration | The Promise NI

While we’ve been having some pretty fab sunshine of late, in Northern Ireland we’re all quite aware of our temperamental weather forecast – so here at The Promise HQ we’d like to introduce you to the ultimate SS16 transitional piece, perfect for any weather – The Pleated Skirt. Guaranteed to keep you flying high in the style stakes, but also so versatile that you can still rock this look even on a chillier day, the pleated skirt is a vital addition to your wardrobe.

As with a majority of our most popular trends – we have style queen Alexa Chung to thank for this one. Last year she wore an A-line suede M&S beauty, turning the mid-length skirt into a must-have item – while this year she’s stepped it up a notch and gone full on pretty in pleats with a metallic Gucci version. Oh to be rich and famous!!

If Alexa’s budget is making your eyes water – check out our top 6 favourite high street picks that won’t break the bank but will still have you feeling fabulous all Summer long!
