Canadian couple Andrew and Rebecca met through mutual friends and became engaged in the city of love – Paris! When it came to planning their dream day that truly reflected them and continued with their story, they chose the amazing venue of Luttrellstown Castle, Dublin;

“We always knew our venue was going to be in Ireland at a Castle. Once we found the perfect venue, it was only fitting that it would have a Fairytale wedding theme. Princess Bride was a favourite childhood movie to both Andrew and I, so I drew some inspiration from there. Since it was a summer wedding, I wanted to keep things soft and romantic. Blush was my main choice in wedding colours, so we worked all the other details around these ideas,” explained Rebecca.

The wedding celebration was held entirely in the castle with guests being flown in from Canada to share the special occasion with Andrew and Rebecca.

Rebecca wore a custom designed gown from McCaffrey’s Haute Couture, a renowned Canadian bridal boutique;

“I only tried on a few gowns before I realised I wanted to create my own custom design. I have a background in fashion, so I am really passionate about carefully choosing clothes that flatter and represent the occasion and enhance the personality of the individual. I decided to work with a renowned Bridal Boutique in Canada, McCaffrey’s Haute Couture, and co-designed my dress with the owner/head designer, David McCaffrey. I now have my sketches framed and mounted on the wall in my dressing room – it is such a lovely and meaningful keepsake for me,” said Rebecca.

The stunning gown was teamed with enviable shoes; Badgly Mischka for the day and Christian Louboutin’s for the evening. To keep with the fairytale theme, Andrew wore a Canali tux from Robert Simmonds, Canada.

“The day went perfectly. From breakfast with my girls to the heart-warming ceremony, to the wishing lanterns toward the end of the night. The entire day was like an amazing dream. Saying ‘I do’ to each other was the best part of the day, and of our lives. I was very emotional and Andrew had to help me with my vows as I wept. It was a moment which captures how our life will be – beautiful, caring, reliance on one another and expressing our love,” said Rebecca.

Of course like all Irish weddings one thing that couldn’t be controlled was the weather;

“When I was getting my photos taken, it had just rained, but I wanted to get great photos, so I put on my Hunter rain boots and was a real trooper. When we finished, the bottom of my dress was completely soiled in mud. My maidens washed it and we were able to remove the stains, however, the fabric stretched and I began to trip a bit. Since the bottom of the hem was unfinished, we were able to just cut it with scissors. No one would have ever noticed!” added Rebecca.

Rebecca’s advice

“Follow your instincts and stay true to yourselves. If it’s in  your budget, hire a great videographer. After the wedding is over, you will cherish this keepsake more than any other. Above all, remember what the day is really about- your commitment to each other. If you can keep that in the forefront, it will be a beautiful day, for everyone to cherish forever.”

“To mark an end to our day but the beginning of our married life together we surprised our guests with wishing lanterns which were pretty amazing. Everyone had so much fun writing wishes and watching them float up in the sky. It looked more beautiful than we ever would have imagined and it was definitely a memorable moment at our wedding. It was truly magical, and was beautifully captured by both the photographer and the videographer,” added Rebecca.
