Good morning brides-to-be! What a great start to our Week of Love we have for you today- Gareth and Lauren’s early summer wedding in Ballymascanlon House Hotel.
With only three short miles separating the couple from their family homes, it wasn’t until Gareth worked for Lauren’s Uncle that the pair first knew of each other:
“I briefly knew of Gareth as he worked for my Uncle and I’d always heard my Daddy talking about him. I would see him whilst I worked in my Aunties beauty salon, although he was a few years older than me and spent many a night having a drink with my Daddy. Finally a few years later he approached me in McAleers bar in Dungannon and it all took off from there,” explains Lauren.
The couple quickly became inseparable and Gareth became not only Lauren’s rock during her Daddy’s illness, but also a huge party of her family, so when the proposal came in November 2011 it was a surprise to Lauren, but only her!
“We were in Barcelona on holiday when Gareth surprised me with a stunning ring in the middle of a bridge!” explains Lauren. “By this time my Daddy had very sadly prematurely passed away, but I knew he was so fond of Gareth and I was so thankful I had someone to help me through the very dark days,” she adds.
The couple planned their wedding for 18 months down the line for May 2013, and so Lauren set to work with the help of her ever glamourous mum Anne, sister Jessica and best friends Emer and Cara- and Gareth of course! Vintage glamour was to be the theme of the day, with lots of pretty bespoke details included.
An avid lover of fashion, Lauren searched the Internet for her dream wedding dress, successfully found exactly what she was looking for and then sourced a local stockist. Her entirely beaded lace down by Allure featured a soft fishtail skirt and sweetheart neckline. She decided to design her bridesmaids dresses to compliment in an elegant buttermilk shade with quirky ankle grazing tulle skirts. Whilst Lauren chose to have her blonde locks gracefully swept to one side the bridesmaids had funky high rolled buns, expertly done by Olivia Muldoon.
Gareth and his grooms party were pretty smart in their black three piece suits from Red, Cookstown.
Lauren was accompanied up their aisle by her mum and the ceremony started with the couple lighting a remembrance candle for both their fathers, a beautiful sentiment to start the event. The ceremony was very personal to them both with members of both families taking part.
Following the highly emotive ceremony it was off to the Ballymascanlon House Hotel in Dundalk for the fun! Guests were welcomed to the drinks reception with a candy cart and the sounds of Chasin Hooley, which included Best Man Oliver and his trusty tin whistle!
“The day was everything I had imagined and more! We wanted to keep a very upbeat party atmosphere to try to keep spirits high, as they were sadly very obvious faces missing on the day. Of course, as to be imagined there were a few tiny hiccups- the cake got lots en route and didn’t arrive until the start of the speeches and Gareth in all his wisdom stuck his lovely ‘Me too’ stickers over the price stickers instead of removing them first! My ‘I Do’ stickers looked fab, his, not so much!” said Lauren.
“As cheesy as it sounds, marrying my best friend was the highlight! He has been my rock for years and especially when we suddenly lost my Daddy. Of course, spending a day surrounded by all our family and friends whom we love dearly was also amazing,” said Lauren.
